Flat Aubie learns what it's like to *contribute* to our country :)

Greetings from Afghanistan:
Flat Aubie became a member of the family immediately; he arrived late in the evening but the moment he set boots to the floor he was busy body. He started by helping with coverage in the Fire Dept Dispatch Center and then in the morning he went to breakfast to start the rest of his journey. Flat Aubie, helped with truck details in the morning and then he went to visit some of the aircrafts in our locations. He also had to take a small break since he has been on the move since he arrived.
Flat Aubie learned the current location he arrived in is called Jalalabad Air Base, it is small province located in Eastern Afghanistan. In which, the language most spoken in this location is Pashto. However, English what is spoken on this air base. The other name for this location is also known as FOB Fenty, FOB means it is a Forward Operating Base and Fenty is for a Brave Soldier who defended our country. The Fire Dept works hand and hand with the military, to support the mission here. So as you can see Flat Aubie had a lot of work to do.
Flat Aubie seemed to enjoy his travel here in the little time he had. As it can be seen through the pictures he had a full day of work. He was escorted by some of the best firefighters, and he was given the treatment any elite visitor would get. We hope that he will return safely to his owner and show that he was treated well.

                                                          Very Respectfully,
                                   Fenty Fire & Emergency Services

Mmm! Flat Aubie loves Tex Mex!

Dear Lauren,
I am so glad that Flat Aubie was able to come visit me in TEXAS!!! The Lone Star State! When he first got here, Flat Aubie took a picture with the University of Texas flag. UT is the biggest school in Texas! Texas fans say "Hook Em!" Next, we took Flat Aubie to a very popular Tex-Mex restaurant named Gringos. We love this restaurant, especially the queso and guacamole! Flat Aubie was a hit with my family, especially my grandparents!!!

Thank you for sending Flat Aubie to Houston, the 4th biggest city in the United States!

Flat Aubie visits LP Field in Nashville, TN!

Hi Peyton,

We took Flat Aubie on a visit to downtown Nashville, Tennesse.  He was especially excited to see LP Field!  This is the stadium where the Tennessee Titans play.  Nashville is a great city not only because of the football team, but also because of all the country music that comes from here.  A lot of famous people live here like Keith Urban (country singer) and Nicole Kidman (actress).  Nashville is also the capital of Tennessee.  It is a great town with lots of fun things to see and do.  The town recently went through some tough times when we had lots and lots of rain and things were flooded.  But the people of Nashville worked together to clean things up and rebuild buildings.  Flat Aubie loved visiting here and hopes that you can come and visit soon!

Love,
Abbey

Flat Aubie goes sightseeing in South Carolina!

Dear Audrey,
I live in Charleston, South Carolina.  It is a city that has lots of real old buildings and lots of water around it.  I like to ride in my boat and see all the crabs and dolphins.  I took Aubie with me today and my Dad took me around Charleston to see different places.  I ate lunch at Jason's Deli and got to eat ice cream cones.  I then took pictures in front of a famous cow sign in Charleston.  It is the Coburg Milk Cow sign.  It wears different outfits sometimes, like a turkey suit when it is Thanksgiving.  I then went to Downtown Charleston where my Dad works and got to climb on top of a real big house.   I could see all around the city from way up in the air.  I saw the big Cooper River bridge and the Yorktown ship.  A really big cruise ship was in the water today.  It was really neat to see stuff from on top of the house.  Thank you for sending me Aubie.  I had fun showing him where I live.
Sincerely,
Ricky McNeely

"Kia Ora" says Flat Aubie from New Zealand!

Kia Ora Ogletree! (Hello in Maori)
Flat Aubie had such a wonderful time in Auckland, New Zealand! When he arrived he immediatly noticed that the weather is much different from home. When he left Auburn it was cold but here in Auckland it is spring. Aubie started to see the town right away. He visited the beaches wearing his jandals (flip flops) and togs (swimsuit). When he was at the beach Aubie noticed that some of the people who live here talk funny. They speak English but just with a different kind of accent.
He then decided to go to the zoo and learn more about the animals in New Zealand. He learned that the only native mammal to New Zealand is a bat. He also learned that the national bird is the kiwi. Unfortunately, he was not able to meet the kiwi since they are nocturnal and are very hard to spot.
The first people to live on the island are called Maoris. Aubie went to one of the Maori villages and was greeted by a lot of men dancing around in skirts. Aubie later learned that the dancing was a greeting welcoming him into their village. He enjoyed a nice feast (called a hangi) where the food was cooked in the ground.
Aubie had a wonderful time in New Zealand but is excited to get back to all his friends and family in Auburn!

Flat Aubie in the BIG APPLE!

Flat Aubie sees the Empire State Building!
And the Flatiron Building... There are big buildings everywhere!
Madison Square Park where Aubie saw squirrels!

Flat Aubie on the bus. It's early so there's not too many people on there with us.

Hey! There's Grand Central Terminal!

Catching the subway home! Hurry, Flat Aubie, hurry!

Lauren

The weather gets warm for Flat Aubie in Panama City, FL!

Dear Cary,
Thank you for sending Flat Aubie to us for a visit. He has had such a good time here in Florida at our house in the woods on Deer Point Lake. His new friends here are the birds and fish he helps Wawa feed each afternoon; the ducks that come each day to eat the corn they put our for them; the beautiful Monarch butterflies that are coming through Florida on their way to Mexico for the winter; and especially the two (War) eagles that have their nest right near our house. He watches everyday for the alligator that swims by sometimes!

We are sending you pictures of Flat Aubie out on our dock where you like to fish, one of (War) Eagle up in the tree, and one of Mimi telling Flat Aubie goodbye. We have really enjoyed his visit with us and hope he will come back soon!

We love you and are very proud of you,
Mimi and Wawa

Flat Aubie has Georgia on his mind...

Dear Camden,
Flat Aubie came to visit Forsyth, Georgia which is a small town near Macon, Georgia. It is about 50 miles from the big city of Atlanta. Forsyth was named after a man who was a governor, senator, and secretary of state, John Forsyth. Once a year in the spring we have a Forsythia Festival where for 3 days the people here have a lot of fun with games, rides, food, and dances in the street! Flat Aubie then went to visit Indian Springs Park which is the oldest park in the nation. In the pictures I have sent, it explains how years ago the Creek Indians used the water to heal their people. I hope you and your classmates enjoy hearing about my town!

Love, Your Cousin,
Muriel

Flat Aubie goes international to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia!

Dear Lee,
Today, Flat Aubie has been traveling with me in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I am sending you two pictures. One is of Aubie relaxing in a local plat. You can see it is hot and tropical here.  The second picture is the Petronas Twin Towers. These Towers are the tallest twin buildings in the world.  There are 88 floors and the building is made of concrete, steel and glass.  There is a sky bridge that goes between the towers.  It serves as a safety device too. If one tower catches on fire, people can use the sky bridge to escape to the other side. I know you are ending your project soon. I will be in Thailand tomorrow and try to send some more photos. Have a great Thanksgiving and take care of your mom!
See you Christmas,
Mark

Wow! Flat Aubie saw landforms in Redlands, CA!

Peyton,
Thank you for sending Flat Aubie to visit with us! While he was here, we showed him around our hometown of Redlands, California. The town of Redlands is a quiet, small town which has great weather year-round. It is located in a valley near the foothills of the San Bernardino Mountains.
Redlands is most famous for its many large orange groves. Below is a picture of Aubie overlooking one of the local orange groves. You can even see the mountains in the background.
Redlands is also located very close to many interesting geographical features. It is about an hour drive from the beach, an hour from the desert, and an hour from the mountains.
Of all of the sites that Aubie got to see, he says that most of all he loved the beautiful palm trees in Redlands. I am including a picture of Aubie with the palm trees as well.
Love,
Uncle Michael and Aunt Christy

Flat Aubie back from Gatlinburg, TN

Flat Aubie has returned from his travels from Gatlinburg, TN!

Dear Anna and Friends,

My name is Patty.  I live in Sevierville, Tennessee located at the foot of the Smoky Mountains.  In our community there are really 3 cities:  Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg.  The road out of Gatlinburg goes all the way up the Smoky Mountains and over into North Carolina.  It is really beautiful here.  The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is the most visited park in the United States and ranks 2nd only to Disney World in Florida.  It is very beautiful here and tourism is our #1 business.  But, that’s really great because people in the south are very friendly and I think Tennessee is the most friendliest of all.  So, we really like our visitors.
We have many attractions here to keep you busy.  A trip to our Ripley’s aquarium will provided a fun time and it is fun education.  It’s great to learn new things while you’re having a great time walking through a glass tunnel where the fish and sharks can swim around you and act like you are the attraction (or maybe even the treat!),  manta rays who look like big water bats can be touched and the penguins will walk with you.  An attraction that is up on top of one of our mountains in the Smoky range is Ober Gatlinburg.  We have ski lifts and trams to take people up there to ice skate in a year round ice skating rink, snow skiing, and many rides and games to play.  There is, also, a natural animal habitat where bears, otters and raccoons live very peaceably and protected. Money collected as admission to Ober Gatlinburg is donated to the national park service for upkeep and protection of the animals who live here.
The Smoky Mountains are smoky because of all the diverse plant life found there.  It’s like having our own little rain forest and Eco system.
Dolly Parton grew up in Pigeon Forge and is a great benefactor to our school system and community.  She has helped to sponsor a new hospital in Sevierville and promotes reading programs throughout our state.  Miss Dolly has a few attractions here that are fun to attend:  Dollywood and the Dixie Stampede.  At Dollywood, there are rides, games, theater shows and so much to see and do.  The Kratt Brothers from Zooboomafoo were here for 2 months teaching everyone about wild life.  How interesting was that!!!  At Dixie Stampede dinner is served while the show is going on.  The dinner is wonderful, but, so much food to eat!  Everyone in the audience receives a  whole chicken, potato, soup, corn on the cob, a huge buttery biscuit,  a fried apple pie,  and as much tea or soda as you would like. Taking some home in a doggy- bag always helps. At the same time in the arena, the long horned steers or buffalo are running through.  There is a beautiful act that has an Indian thunderbird flying through the air over top of the audience, swooping down and raising up again to the top of the roof.  That is magical to see.  The southern belles are dainty and graceful and the greased pig race is funny.  The cowgirls are great riders and the horses are very well trained.  Some of them can even count!!.
Down town, we have so much to do.  But, when the day is over and Mom and Dad are tired and want to come back to the Wyndham Resort to rest, that’s where some of the real fun begins!!  We have indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, a spray ground, playground, miniature golf, ping pong, an arcade, and lots and lots of activities and games and even movie shows.  We make Bear Claw necklaces, blankets, and T-shirt painting.
Tennessee is a Wonderful place to visit, Anna, and I hope we will be seeing you and your family back here again very soon.  Until then, I’m very glad Aubie came for a visit with you and I HOPE HE CAN GET TO GO TO MANY MORE INTERESTING PLACES SOON.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas.  And, a very HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
PATTY
